About

I am a singer/songwriter living in the Black Mountains in Wales. I gave up my job in London to follow what was a lot closer to my heart…creating. Alongside my song writing work I offer piano lessons to residents in the local area. I teach reading, theory, composition and improvisation.

I have many influences and I often find it quite tricky to define my music. I love a good melody and my songs are, I think an expression of that. The words and the music seem to come at the same time and the themes of my tunes vary. I think there are elements of folk, jazz and pop in there. I enjoy the element of story telling in song writing and taking on different roles through that. A lot of the themes of my songs are to do with matters of the heart and I find this a great outlet for what I am holding on to and experiencing. I would like to post a little something a friend gave me in a birthday card for all other artists which goes like this:

From Martha Graham to Agnes DeMille

There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique

If you block it,
it will never exist through any other medium
and will be lost.
The world will not have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is,
nor how valuable it its,
nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly
To keep the channel open.

You do not have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware directly
to the urges that motivate you.

Keep the channel open.
No artist is pleased.
There is no satisfaction whatever, at any time.
There is only queer, divine dissatisfaction;
a blessed unrest that keeps us marching
and makes us more alive than the others.
